Terms & Conditions

These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of Empire Code Editor (the "Editor"), the website and the Dev Area. By downloading, installing or using the Editor, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service. Last updated: November 2026.

1. The service

Empire Code Editor is a desktop code editor for Windows with built-in tools including an AI assistant, a Spotify player, Discord presence, an extension marketplace and a developer area. Features may change, be added or removed over time.

2. Accounts

Some features (such as publishing extensions) require a developer account. You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for all activity under your account. Provide accurate information and keep it up to date.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

4. Extensions and user content

You retain ownership of extensions and content you create. By publishing an extension, you grant us a non-exclusive license to host, store, display and distribute it through the marketplace so that other users can view and install it. You are solely responsible for your extensions and must have the rights to everything you publish. We may remove any extension or content that violates these Terms or that we reasonably believe is harmful, at our discretion.

5. AI features

The AI features are powered by a third-party model (Google Gemini). AI output may be inaccurate, incomplete or unsafe, and must be reviewed before use. You are responsible for any code you generate, accept or run. Do not send confidential information you are not permitted to share with the AI provider.

6. Package installation and tools

Features that install packages or tools (for example the Package Manager, or Python/Node installers) run commands on your computer and download software from third-party sources such as npm, PyPI, LuaRocks or winget. You are responsible for reviewing what you install. We are not responsible for third-party packages.

7. Third-party services

Your use of integrated services (Spotify, Discord, GitHub, Google and others) is also subject to those services' own terms and policies. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by them.

8. Intellectual property

The Editor, the website and their original content (excluding user content and third-party components) are owned by the project owner and protected by applicable laws. These Terms do not grant you any rights in our trademarks or branding.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, availability, or that it will be error-free or secure. You use it at your own risk.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, profits or code, arising from your use of the service, the AI output, installed packages, or any extension.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate access to the service or to any account that violates these Terms. You may stop using the service at any time.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page.
